Kvaerner Arabtec JV lands second Dubai Airport project

Press release 24/08/2000 00:00 CET

Kvaerner Construction International and its Dubai-based joint venture partner, Arabtec, have won a repeat contract at Dubai International Airport. Worth £10 million, it is a design and build project to renovate and extend the arrival and departure areas.

This new contract is the result of the close working relationship forged by the joint venture with Dubai’s Department of Civil Aviation following during the £30 million refurbishment and extension programme at Terminal One which is nearing completion.

In the Arrivals Building, the meeting area is being extended landside by some 20 metres along its total length to create increased air-conditioned space for those meeting passengers. Additional concession counters for banking, car-hire and hotel reservations will also be built. Access to the Meeters Lounge is being improved with the addition of a passenger’s lift.

In the Departure Building a Wavers Gallery, Food Court and extra airline offices are to be constructed and fitted out over the recently extended check-in hall.

In all more than 10,000 square metres will be constructed. All of the work has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to the airport with phased completions in the arrivals area ensuring passengers are unaffected by construction.

This is the third contract Kvaerner Construction International, working from its Dubai-based office, has carried out in joint venture with Arabtec. As well as the original airport project, they have recently fitted out the extensive public areas of the Burj Al Arab, the world’s most luxurious hotel.
