Skanska’s retained façade experience helps win £13m development in Regent Street

Press release 03/10/2002 00:00 CET

Skanska’s experience in retained façade projects and managing sites with tight logistical demands helped it clinch a £13 million contract from Chelsfield Properties to redevelop the Plaza Cinema at Regent Street.

The contract involves rebuilding the Plaza’s structure behind its 70 year-old façade over a period of 21 months. When completed, the Plaza will have a modern cinema complex on two levels, together with retail and office space on five levels.

Located on one of London’s busiest streets, near Piccadilly, the delivery of goods and materials will require detailed planning by Skanska to ensure construction activity does not disrupt one of the capital’s main arteries.

It is the second time in two years that Skanska has worked with Chelsfield, following completion in 2000 of St Catherine’s House, another major building where the facade was retained.

The contract also comes as Skanska nears completion of a project at nearby Wigmore Street to develop a modern office complex for Minerva behind a retained façade.

Buro Four Project Services is Chelsfield’s project manager.
