Kvaerner Construction’s Hong Kong-based subsidiary, Gammon Construction, has been awarded three foundations contracts which are worth £39 million (HK$493.5 million).
Working for the Mass Transit Railway Corporation in Hong Kong, the company has won a £15.3 million (HK$194 million) contract for piling and ancillary works at a new depot on the Tseung Kwan O extension line. The project, which is due for completion in May 2000, involves sinking 314 piles ranging from 1.2 metres to 2.8 metres in diameter to depths of up to 75 metres.
Gammon has also signed a £13.6 million (HK$173 million) contract with Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Ltd to construct bored piles at Tseung Kwan O, and a £10 million (HK$126.5 million) contract to install piles for an eight-tower residential development at Tsuen Wan for Salisburgh Company Limited. Both contracts are due for completion by the end of the year.
These contracts reinforce Gammon Construction’s position as one of the leading construction companies in Asia. It has also recently secured more than £100 million worth of road and rail contracts in Hong Kong.
