Skanska’s specialist fit-out company Kontor has won a £1.1 million design and build contract to refurbish two floors of Imperial College’s Electrical Engineering building on the main campus in South Kensington, London.
The fast-track 13-week programme sees Kontor responsible for developing the client’s design from concept stage through to completion, using architect Diverse Interior.
The project involves stripping and demolishing the existing façade on level two to create a modern new reception area. This includes installing a new glazed façade and increasing the existing floor area to accommodate new senior and student common rooms, café bar, offices, canopy and specialist joinery. All new joinery will be made from re-used college workshop benches.
Kontor will also fit-out level 12 of the building, which involves new M&E services, open plan office space, cellular offices and disabled lift access.
Project manager is Estates Projects Office, client architect is AEM Studios, QS is Davis Langdon & Everest , M&E is Klimaat, structural engineers is Ian Wright Associates and planning supervisor Inman Safety Services.
