Kvaerner Construction’s American-based subsidiary has won new orders valued at over £18 million, including two with its long-term healthcare partner Columbia/HCA.
At the Northside Hospital and Heart Institute in St Petersburg, Florida-based Kvaerner Construction Inc is due to start work on a £4.4 million contract to extend and renovate the emergency department for Columbia/HCA in August.
In a second deal with Columbia, worth £5.6 million, the company will extend the emergency department of Panama City’s Gulf Coast Medical Centre as well as renovate the surgical services department. This is the second contract awarded to Kvaerner at the medical centre and work is due to start in April.
These contracts are the latest to be awarded to Kvaerner Construction Inc by its long-standing partner Columbia/HCA. In the last two-and-a-half years the company has carried out more than £53 million of hospital renovation and expansion work for Columbia.
Kvaerner Construction Inc has also been awarded two important university contracts in Florida.
At the Florida International University in Miami it has a £6.25 million deal to construct a 75,000 square foot multi-purpose building. Work will start on site in November and is due to be completed in 2002.
In Gainesville, it has a further £2.4 million contract to extend the University of Florida’s Reitz Union Building to accommodate a new 24,000 square foot ballroom. Work on site is expected to start in May and be completed in mid 2001.
