Cementation Foundations Skanska secures £10m CTRL project

Press release 19/06/2002 00:00 CET

Cementation Foundations Skanska has secured a £10 million project to carry out the piling on Channel Tunnel Rail Link’s (CTRL) contract 342, the 3.5km route section through Ebbsfleet, just south of the River Thames.

It is the company’s largest new project this year and involves constructing a mix of CFA, rotary and driven cast in-situ piles for structures that include Ebbsfleet Station, a 200 metre viaduct, 12 bridges, plus a 300 metre cut and cover tunnel adjacent to the A2.

Cementation Foundations Skanska was appointed after working in partnership throughout contract 342’s tender stage with the contract’s main contractor, Hochtief/Norwest Holst joint venture. Piling work starts this month with completion in April 2004, although the bulk of activity will be between now and April next year.

It is the company’s fourth project on CTRL. On contract 430, it carried out piling for the cut and cover tunnels through Ashford, while on contract 220, it constructed the world’s deepest rectangular diaphragm wall at 57 metres for a ventilation shaft, and on contract 230 it is constructing the UK’s biggest diaphragm wall for the Stratford Box, which will house Stratford International Station.
