Skanska’s piling and foundation operating unit has beaten off stiff competition to win the Sustainability category at the 2013 Ground Engineering Awards.
Members of the team attended a prestigious awards lunch, held at the elegant Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Thursday 25 April.
Martin Pedley, Managing Director for Cementation Skanska, commented: “Winning this award is proof, that through innovative ideas, concrete and sustainability can be cited in the same sentence.
“From the creation of geothermal piling techniques to upgrading our fleet of plant to use biodegradable oils and more efficient engines, means we continue to lead the industry in sustainability.”
Entrants for this category had to demonstrate an innovative, unusual, or cutting edge approach to environmental and sustainability issues on a geotechnical project.
This could be in the form of reuse of materials for existing structures or foundations, innovation in redeveloping brownfield sites, use of technology or design to reduce carbon emissions, or any initiative that drives sustainability in the widest sense across the project.
