Today, Skanska UK is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a 12-month contract, for the refurbishment of a six-storey, commercial building on behalf of its client, Epic.
1 Aldermanbury Square was won under a competitive tender and is a design and build contract for a gross internal area that covers 100,000 sq ft. The client has drawn on Skanska’s sustainability knowledge to construct the building to a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
The project involves the demolition, structural alterations and reconstruction of a new top office floor. New plant will be installed on the roof and basement, with all floors having new services fitted out to the highest internal standard. The facades will be refurbished with stone alterations and new curtain wall installation, whilst new cladding will be provided to the roof.
Paul Heather, Managing Director for Skanska said: “Winning this contract is further proof of Skanska’s ability to carry out any size project, from office refurbishments to constructing the tallest tower in the City of London and shows our ability to adapt to the individual needs of our clients.”
David Williamson of Hanover Cube, Development Manager for the building owners EPIC UK commented: “The refurbishment works will transform this building located in the heart of the City, and deliver all of the requirements of today’s occupiers.
“Skanska has worked hard with the team to optimise the refurbishment proposals and has demonstrated the benefit they can bring as an organisation to this type and scale of project.”
Work is set to begin in May 2013 and is scheduled to complete one year later.
