Roadworks win for Gammon Construction

Press release 27/07/2000 00:00 CET

Gammon Construction, Kvaerner Construction’s Hong Kong-based company, has won a £56 million (HK$688m) road improvement contract on the island.

The company will construct a new 850 metres long elevated two-lane eastbound carriageway as well as a single lane westbound carriageway of the same length between North Point Interchange and Sai Wan Ho on the island’s eastern corridor. Road improvement works also include relocating structures and facilities effected by the new roads and widening works to two existing flyover structures at Sai Wan Ho.

The project, which is being carried out for Hong Kong’s Highways Department, is due for completion in 2003.

The scheme follows Gammon’s successful completion of the £100million Duplicate Tsing Yi South Bridge which was opened to traffic last year and the £60 million Tsing Yi North Coastal Road which is currently under construction.
