Skanska doubles size of primary school

Press release 25/09/2012 14:15 CET

Skanska has completed the £2 million expansion of Hannah More Primary School in central Bristol in just over six months.

The extension was built on top of the existing school building due to the lack of extra space and the six new additional classrooms will accommodate a total of 420 pupils – 100% more.

The construction of a new kitchen block and the refurbishment of several rooms within the existing Victorian building have also been completed.

A high-level steel walkway was installed within the existing Victorian hall to create easy access the new classrooms.

Mike Carter, Operations Manager for Skanska, commented: “In order to avoid disruption to the pupils during the school term we used offsite construction methods.”

More than 20 construction workers were led by Tim Smith, Construction Manager for Skanska’s Building Central and Regions Division.

Mike added: “The team, has delivered an excellent project and made certain it was ready for when the pupils returned to their classrooms at the end of their summer break.”
