Kvaerner Construction has been awarded its fourth motorway communications project in a £2.2 million contract with the Highways Agency.
The Yorkshire Driver Information System is on the M62, M18 and M180 motorways. It follows similar projects on the M6, M61 and M55 in Lancashire, the recently constructed M1/A1 Link Road near Leeds and on the M62, M606 and M1 in Yorkshire during the last three years.
In its latest project, Kvaerner Construction will install retaining walls, gantry bases, safety fencing and communications’ infrastructure. The scheme includes laying 15km of copper cabling and detection looping under the carriageway of the roads which will stay open throughout the contract. Work on site starts is expected to be completed in May next year.
At £11 million, Kvaerner Construction’s previous contract on the M1/A1 Link Road was the biggest single motorway communications contract carried out in the UK.
