Kvaerner Rashleigh Weatherfoil Facilities has been awarded a 30 year contract to provide Estates Facilities Services to the new 571 bed Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich in South East London.
The facilities contract is part of a Private Finance Initiative for The Greenwich Healthcare Trust to redevelop the hospital, previously owned by the Ministry of Defence.
The design, build and operate contract with an overall value of £95m is being jointly undertaken by Kvaerner Construction and Kvaerner Rashleigh Weatherfoil. It was announced today (Monday July 6th) by Mr Frank Dobson, the UK’s Secretary of State for Health.
The new hospital will open in March 2001 when Kvaerner Rashleigh Weatherfoil Facilities will operate a 24 hour 365 day service covering planned preventative maintenance and repairs and replacement to all building services, building fabric and hospital equipment. Other services include communication systems, energy management. grounds maintenance, medical gases and waste disposal.
The award of the contract is the culmination of three years of negotiations and consultations. The Kvaerner team worked in close partnership with the strategic development team of Greenwich Healthcare Trust to define and refine the hospital design and its operational capacities to meet the ongoing demands on healthcare into the next millennium.
