Richard Lees Steel Decking, Kvaerner Construction’s specialist structural flooring company, has won a prestigious contract worth more than £1 million on a new 44-storey tower block being constructed at Canary Wharf in London.
The company will supply and install 110,000 square metres of Ribdeck Al steel decking, 15,000 metres of steel edge shuttering and 330,000 through-deck welded shear studs at the 192 metres high building, the second tallest building in the UK.
The galvanised steel deck acts as permanent shuttering and reinforcement for the in-situ concrete floors and allows considerable savings in costs and construction times.
As well as the supply and installation contract, Richard Lees Steel Decking will provide supporting technical design work and computer aided design detailing throughout the project which it is scheduled to complete in the summer next year.
Richard Lees Steel decking, which is working with main steelwork contractor Kvaerner Cleveland Bridge, also supplied the steel decking on the 50-storey main tower in London’s Docklands.
The new building will eventually house the European headquarters of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.
