360° cameras
In 2015, as part of our on-going drive to create an injury-free environment on our sites, we introduced the use of 360° all-round visibility cameras on a selection of mobile construction plant.
Designing out dust
This case study sets out how we are developing a better understanding of the known health risks associated with respirable crystalline silica (RCS) through risk assessment and management of employee health, mitigating business and sector risk.
Going underground
In 2015, Skanska worked closely with the Utility Service Avoidance Group (USAG) to raise awareness of the dangers of working near underground services. This culminated in a week long campaign called ‘Going Underground?’
Mobile elevated working platforms (MEWP)
In 2011 Skanska introduced the use of anti-crush devices on all boom-type (IPAF category 3b) mobile elevated working platforms (MEWPs). This standard has subsequently been endorsed by UKCG, now Build UK, and adoptedby other member organisations.
Quick hitch
In 2009, as part of our ongoing drive to create an Injury-Free Environment on our sites, Skanska banned the use of all semi-automatic and automatic excavator quick hitches which do not lock onto both pins. This standard has subsequently been endorsed by UKCG (now Build UK) and taken up by other member organisations.
Petrol driven cut-off saws (STIHL)
In 2013, Skanska, STIHL and CSkills joined forces to develop a new training programme, with accompanying videos to promote the safe use of petrol driven cut-off saws in the construction industry.
Stop the drop
In 2014, as part of our on-going drive to create an injury-free environment on our sites, we teamed up with Enfield Supplies to run a week-long initiative called ‘Stop the Drop’.
