Our approach to improving biodiversity aligns with the MOD’s climate change and sustainability approach strategy. Our expertise can help support the MOD and DIO’s goal of improving biodiversity.
We are already working to deliver a biodiversity net gain across our whole operations.
To support this, we have implemented a biodiversity assessment tool that informs our approach to the design, construction and maintenance of projects. And, we are working to gain a deeper understanding of how operations impact biodiversity, so we can further identify measures to improve wildlife habitats.
Protecting the ecology
Excellent environmental management ensures that any work is planned around protected species near to our sites and we aim to exceed our biodiversity targets.
We did this at Worthy Down through achieving a biodiversity net gain of 63 per cent.
Creating a habitat haven
We worked to regenerate the pond at Northwood HQ, removing around 30 trucks of vegetation and creating special swimming channels and a nursery for spawning fish. We also ensured the right mix of plants and flowers was in place.
The improvements have also attracted wild birds back to the pond that have not been seen there for years.
