The Church Lane footbridge is a 64-metre span precambered lattice structure footbridge including ten ramps and two staircases totalling 330 tonnes of steelwork.
The bridge was fabricated off site at our Doncaster fabrication workshop in four spliced sections. Our fabrications team were involved throughout the project, from design through the manufacturing to installation and completion.
Digital rehearsals were used to test and demonstrate the proposed programme and methodology and to ensure minimum disruption to rail, road and air services in the vicinity.
Each section was fully welded in the workshop and delivered to site to maximise safety and quality and reduce activity alongside the live carriageway. The bridge deck and ramps were lifted into place in a single lift over one weekend, with the remaining ramps and stairways installed on a later lift.
