Building for security
We built and handed over the Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre in just 68 weeks – ahead of schedule.
The facility offers secure accommodation for 326 male and female detainees, awaiting removal from the UK. It also features a separate facility for Customs and Excise.
Reducing risk
Close to Heathrow Airport, the centre was built from pre-cast concrete that incorporates cast-in containment and sprinkler pipework. This made the construction phase quicker and reduces the risk of detainees damaging the building.
Integrated security systems
The facility includes integrated security systems. Its 250 digital CCTV cameras enable the staff to maintain security at all times and keep residents safe.
The three-storey facility houses administration and processing areas. Its accommodation includes air-conditioning, fire sprinklers in every room and security features. The combination of services in one location minimises the frequent movement of detainees.
Streamlining construction
As part of the design and build process, we used three-dimensional modelling to simplify construction. This approach enabled us to integrate the pre-fabricated elements with the building services. It also helped us understand quantities and dimensions more quickly and easily, ensuring faster delivery and minimising costs.
