We undertake all forms of tunnelling in all types of ground conditions - from drill-and-blast methods in hard rock, to EPB tunnelling in London Clay, slurry TBM tunnelling for large river crossings, or sprayed-concrete-lined pedestrian tunnels in London Clay. We also specialise in associated shaft construction of all sizes and types, using a variety of in-house techniques including secant pile, diaphragm-wall, as well as traditional jacking and underpinning methods.
We have completed a wide range of tunnelling and underground space projects in the road, rail, energy, water and mining sectors. In response to the recent step-change growth in activity within the UK tunnelling sector, we are now able to supplement our UK capability with world-class tunnelling experience from around the world – both in-house via our Skanska sister companies in Sweden, Norway and North America, and also externally through strategic long-term collaboration arrangements with specialist European tunnelling partners.
